Linking quality work conditions to quality care in LTC
April 16, 2021

April 8, 2021

Today, WBUR features a commentary by Carework Network co-chairs, Mignon Duffy and Kim Price-Glynn, titled, A Care Agenda Is Essential Policy. They highlight the ongoing challenges of care in the U.S., exacerbated by the pandemic, and the opportunity in this moment with a new president who is the first to use the word “caregiving” in a public speech.  They call for support for the proposed infrastructure plan, the American Jobs Plan, as well as expanded support for those who need care and those who give care (paid and unpaid) across the life course.

This commentary comes in the wake of a statement by the Carework Network to advocate for investment in care policy.  Other prominent care organizations have made similar statements or sent letters to the Biden-Harris administration recently, including the National Domestic Workers Alliance and Caring Across Generations.

All of these groups are working to bridge the silos that separate types of care (e.g., child care, elder care, disability care, care in homes), and that separate caregivers from care receivers. Political progress will depend on sustaining long term efforts that emphasize both quality care and quality care jobs.
